Unwavering Jewish Courage: From the Rebbe's Address in 1989 (5750)
The Rebbe’s father, Rabbi Levi Yitzchak Schneerson, was the Chief Rabbi of Dnepropetrovsk, Ukraine, at a time when Jewish leaders were persecuted for preserving Judaism. Rabbi Levi Yitzchak, however, was defiant; publicly declaring that he would not be coerced into submission.

My cousin, his fiancée and I visited my aunt in a nursing home in Florida, and while we chatted the lady in the bed beside her said my cousin had courage. Immediately I realized she insinuated that his engagement was bold. He was itching to be a husband and perhaps a father, but he was so young. His even younger fiancée was so pleasant and nice that even Ezekiel thinks that my cousin found a nice catch; but they were both very young. In this generation we have an ideal concept of preparation, but the torah warns about idealism Lev. 26:1. I wish that we could all have courage like he does.
