It is an age-old Jewish custom to find meaning in everything that occurs in one’s life. The Mishnah states: “Who is wise? One who learns from every person.” The Baal Shem Tov extrapolated this idea to apply to every single occurrence and detail.

This relates to the day of redemption of the Alter Rebbe, Yud-Tes Kislev, at which time the two lights (the revealed and the mystical) of the Alter Rebbe began to illuminate and penetrate the world. It even reached the simplest Jew. This is the fulfillment of drawing down light from the greatest heights to the lowest depths.

The mechanics of electricity are hidden— not touchable or physically discernible through any of the five senses. Only through its result — e.g., when it enables actual light to shine — does one recognize its existence and realize its benefit. This hidden power pushes away the darkness and brings light. Similarly, in the spiritual realm, the hidden secrets of the Torah which were revealed through Chassidus dispel and eliminate spiritual darkness.
