Rabbi Benny Greenwald serves as the Director of the Daniel B. Sobel Friendship House in West Bloomfield, MI. Known as the "Recovery Rabbi," he is a compassionate and dedicated leader, providing spiritual guidance and support to individuals and families facing addiction, mental illness, and social isolation. A proud father of four amazing children, Rabbi Greenwald draws inspiration from his family to bring empathy and purpose to his work.

Rabbi Greenwald is honored to continue the impactful work of his predecessor Rabbi Y Pinson, and executive director Rabbi Levi Shemtov, who laid the foundation for the Friendship House as a sanctuary for connection, healing, and recovery. Under Rabbi Greenwald’s leadership, the Friendship House continues to grow as a vibrant community hub, offering a safe space for support and personal growth.

Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, Rabbi Greenwald received his Rabbinic ordination while studying and mentoring students at The Mayanot Institute of Jewish Studies in Jerusalem. His passion for helping others eventually led him to The Friendship House, where he has made a profound impact on the lives of countless individuals and families.

Rabbi Greenwald works closely with those navigating addiction and mental health challenges, providing nonjudgmental support, friendship, and spiritual guidance. He regularly visits and lectures at rehabilitation centers, hospitals, and correctional facilities, bringing hope and encouragement to those in need.

In addition to his direct work with the community, Rabbi Greenwald serves on the Substance Use Disorder Board of Oakland County, MI, and the board of Dawn Farm Recovery Center. His tireless efforts foster understanding, empathy, and empowerment, helping individuals and their loved ones overcome life’s challenges and rebuild their futures.
