9/10 As with other people’s comments, I got number 9, the one about the barley wrong. These details are important. They are there for a reason. Reply

9/10 I got question #9 incorrect! I had no idea there was a number, for how many barley Boaz gave to Ruth! from memory! I recalled he told his workers! to let her glean after them! and to leave some extra so she could get it! I will have to go and read the story of Ruth again in my Bible! Thanks for the quizzes Rabbi! Shalom. Reply

May I add a thought of my own: men, look for ladies like Sweet Ruth and Dear Esther: rare as precious pearls and worth keeping an eye out for! Reply

Not to cast aspersions at all, but every funeral I've ever been to for a married Jewish woman has the rabbi quoting "A woman of valor who can find, for her worth is above rubies." So it seems to me that every Jewish woman who marries a Jewish man is a woman of valor. Reply

I was obviously meant to get #9 wrong, to prompt me to read the Gemara about it. Thank you, Rabbi. Reply

10. I really love this story. She is a heroine for her position and her steadfastness. I entered the path about 5 years or so ago, and had to cling to Hashem as hard as I could just to be accepted. I still fight for the right to continue to go to shul and to study even the most rudimentary works (Tanya, Shulchan Aruch). I try to be as observant as I can but being so far away from a shul makes it difficult. Thank you for the quizzes, Rabbi! It provides all of us who participate the opportunity to stir our minds and be enlightened. Reply

The commentary on six measures of barley was interesting, but I would argue that the primary and immediate reason for six measures of meal was to send a coded message to Naomi via Ruth (who, as a Moabitess, did not understand). Keep in mind that Naomi sent Ruth to Boaz with the specific purpose of finding "rest" (security). It is quite possible that Ruth communicated this to Boaz, prompting his measures of meal message reply. In creation, SIX is the number of MAN, the FINISH of creation, and the DAY before the DAY of REST. (Gen 1,2) When Naomi received the gift, she correctly interpreted the coded message Boaz sent to her. "The MAN will not REST until he has FINISHED the matter this DAY." What else could have prompted this oddly specific and confident assertion? Reply
