Very useful 11/11 although I struggled with some of it but in total I had to read other details from different sources. Thank you. Reply

Missed 4, which I do not mind because It reinforced my learning. Thank you. Yes, British history is full of ups and downs regarding the treatment of the Jews: either expelled or welcomr. Yet, also betrayed: think about the Balfour Declaration and its support for Zionism. Yet, the British had other goals and the Balfour map got slwoly smaller. In addition, I do not see the reason for a "Mandate." . i think we could have managed quite well by ourselves ,and the word Palestine would not havew been revived . Admiration for the British, yes, but some periods were not easu on us Jews. Reply

I was born and grew up in Manchester and attended the King David school from ages 5-11 but I never once heard or used the word " koppel" used for a " kippah" . My whole family who were religious, friends and even members of my shul always used the word " yarmulky". With respect, your answer to question 8 is incorrect. Reply

Jackie Sheridan London July 17, 2025
in response to Dr Clive Levy :

I got that wrong too, and have never heard that, but I wonder if it's the yiddish word for kippah or yarmulke? Reply

Clive Levy Petach Tikvah, Israel July 17, 2025
in response to Jackie Sheridan:

So I'm not the only one. I think koppel is an American word. It's certainly not used in England as far as I am aware. Reply

9 out of 11. Wow! I thought I would get a big fat 0 as I am not British. My origins are Dutch/German, now Aussie.

I actually got 8/11. I am not British though my ancestor here in the U.S. boiled tar on a British Man O War in the early 1700s in order to gain passage to the new world so; I knew alot about British Jewery.
Very good quiz on the British Jewish people through the years. Thank you Rabbi Posner. Reply
