This was amazingly written, but a little outdated. As a community we prefer identity first language in most cases now, and not person first language as emphasized. "She is disabled" is preferred over "she has a disability", and conveys more respect and understanding. When addressing disabled people as a whole, the appropriate way to address us now is "disabled people" rather than "people with disabilities". If someone feels more comfortable with person first language, please respect that when talking to/about them! But person first language is usually the exception now rather than the expected, and identity first language (in most cases and for many disabilities) is more appropriate and respectful.

A few other examples are:
She is deaf
She is autistic
She is a wheelchair user

All of these are preferred!

Also, please never crouch down or get on eye level to talk to a wheelchair user unless asked. It feels patronizing and infantilizing as that's usually how people talk to children Reply
