From Passover through Shavuos, we count the days of the Omer, reminding ourselves to utilize every possible moment to prepare for receiving G-d’s Torah anew. This Mitzvah teaches us to count and value every day of our lives: Every day of the year, we beg G-d to bring the Redemption immediately – not to leave us in exile an instant longer. In exile, there are distractions which try to divert our attention from our mission in this world. But every Jew, especially young boys and girls must “count” every day and every moment – as one counts a valued treasure – so not a single opportunity is lost from increasing in Torah and Mitzvos, and bringing the Redemption closer. |
