As part of his campaign, launched in 1974 to encourage Jews to affix mezuzahs in their homes, the Rebbe also urged checking them in order to ensure that they are indeed kosher.

Soon after they moved to Alabama, Rabbi Stern’s young daughter suffered damage to her ear which resulted in loss of hearing. After going through two surgeries which failed, the Sterns decided to ask the Rebbe for his advice and blessing. (1969)

The Mezuzah bears witness that the entire home and all that is within it are permeated by the Torah passages inscribed in the Mezuzah, beginning with: “Hear, O Israel, the L-rd is our G-d, the L-rd is One”; and concluding with G-d’s promise of Redemption.
