הַהִתְעַסְקוּת בְּדַרְכֵי הַחֲסִידוּת הוּא, אֲשֶׁר גַּם בְּהָלְכוֹ בַּשּׁוּק טָרוּד בַּעֲסָקָיו יַחְשׁוֹב מַה הוּא יָכוֹל לַעֲשׂוֹת בְּעַד עִנְיָנֵי הַחֲסִידוּת וְטוֹבַת הַחֲסִידִים, וּכְשֶׁהוּא פּוֹגֵשׁ מִי שֶׁהוּא מֵאַנְשֵׁי הַשּׁוּק מִמַּכִּירָיו — בְּעִנְיָנֵי מִסְחָר — יְדַבֵּר עַל לִבּוֹ, כִּי יָבוֹא אֶל שִׁעוּרֵי הַלִּמוּדִים בְּדִּבְרֵי אֱלֹקִים חַיִּים אוֹ לְאֵיזוֹ הִתְוַעֲדוּת. וְהַהִתְעַסְקוּת בְּדַרְכֵי הַחֲסִידוּת הוּא חוֹבַת גַּבְרָא מִבְּלִי הֶבְדֵל בֵּין גָּדוֹל וְקָטָן בִּידִיעַת דִּבְרֵי אֱלֹקִים חַיִּים.
Being involved in the spiritual lifestyle of Chassidus means that even when walking about in the marketplace, preoccupied with one’s business, a person thinks about what he can do on behalf of Chassidus and for the good of his fellow chassidim. When he meets his business acquaintances in the market, he speaks to them persuasively about attending a class in Chassidus or a farbrengen.1
Being involved in the ways of Chassidus is a responsibility of every individual, regardless of whether his knowledge of Chassidus is great or scant.2
Living in This World
There are people whose IQ in chassidic scholarship may be lacking, but who possess a unique chassidic EQ: their emotional intelligence is such that they are unusually sensitive to their fellow Jews. They know how to perk their curiosity to hear a chassidic thought, or touch their hearts so that they come to a farbrengen.
The above teaching not only highlights the importance of such abilities: it also stresses that every individual must embody them as far as possible. Just as every Jew is obligated to study Torah, regardless of his intelligence, so every chassid is obligated to involve himself in the above-described paths of Chassidus.
