The Rebbe distributes coins to the Yeshiva students on Chanukah. It’s customary to give out money on Chanukah, in what’s known as “Chanukah Gelt.”
A deficit in terms of students, namely if even one child is turned away, can be an irretrievable loss, whereas a financial deficit can always be made good, if not today then tomorrow, or the day after.
