28 Kislev, 5746 · December 11, 1985
“Contrive a scheme, but it will be foiled; conspire a plot, but it will not materialize, for G-d is with us... Indeed the righteous will extol Your Name; the upright will dwell in Your presence.” Two verses from the daily prayers.
4th Night of Chanukah, 5746 · December 11, 1985
From G-d’s blessing to Jacob: “And you shall spread forth to the west, to the east, to the north and to the south.” These words became a slogan for the Rebbe’s call to reach every Jew, wherever he may be.
“May it be Your will, Lord our G-d and G-d of our fathers, that the Holy Temple be speedily rebuilt in our days, and grant us our portion in Your Torah.” (From the Amida Prayer)
There are two approaches to Judaism, increasing the good or decreasing the bad. On Chanukah, and particularly on the fifth night of Chanukah, we emphasize the former by adding an extra light on each new day.
During Chanukah in 1985, a joint rally was held at 770 for groups of seniors and young children. Addressing the gathering, the Rebbe explained their shared lessons and the rally’s special connection to Chanukah.
