Counting of the Omer: The formal counting of the 49 days from the second day of Passover to the eve of Shavuot, signifying our preparation for the receiving of the Torah on the holiday of Shavuot.

Part of me wants to cry from joy, another part wants to cry from exhaustion, while a third part wants to cry from the doubt that creeps inside.
Counting the Omer
Why do I count these days, as if the days will go quicker or slower, or stop at a certain point, due to my counting? Does my counting affect the day in any sense?
Anyone who has tried to work through a character flaw will concede that it is very difficult. And even if there seems to be a shift today, how can I know that tomorrow won’t bring back the same old demon?
