You shall love your fellow as yourself. (Leviticus 19:18)
The commandment to love one’s fellow is said to be the foundation of the whole Torah. In this painting we see the interconnectedness of people, each one a part of the colorful tapestry of life. This was originally a vertical painting with intricate floral designs. When the canvas was turned sideways and white paint was added around the flowered shapes, figures emerged, harmoniously interacting with each other in a sunlit courtyard. According to the Baal Shem Tov, the love of one’s fellow is like a gateway into the palace of G‑d.
How wonderful! I love it! I create my artwork out of fabric. And, depending on how printec piece of fabric is cut and then pieced into the art quilt, different designs can emerge.
I love this idea of one painting of flowers turned sideways with paint added became a group of people on colorful clothing.
Art often can be seen differently depending on one's background and what the person is looking at. My friend works in ceramics, and on her blog showed us several of her pieces and what she was thinking. Ironically, see the photos of her pieces, she saw different things than when looking at the piece itself.
Creating art is one way we imitate the Master of Creation.
