Re: Fridge If there is a light inside the fridge that turns on when the fridge is opened, there is indeed a problem with using that fridge on Shabbat. This can be avoided by either removing the light bulb from the fixture, or by taping down the button inside the fridge door. Reply

I'm confused! Wouldn't opening the fridge on shabbat in and of itself violate the law's? after all, a fridge is a machine, ergo a tool, and by opening the door you turn on the light. Where by you've used both a tool and [created] fire! ??? Reply
I'm still confused You answered part of the question. But not the whole problem. If we open the fridge, it self, we cause it to heat up, and turn on to cool down. And again we've created fire, as well as used a tool? A tool, which is not a pot nor a pan. I may not be able to use it to rebuild, say a roller coaster, but it is still a tool.
