Chapter 27

1In the beginning of the reign of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, this word came to Jeremiah from the Lord, saying:
In the beginning of the reign of Jehoiakim: Three years prior to Nebuchadnezzar’s ascent to the throne, he prophesied about him that he would reign.
2So said the Lord to me; Make yourself thongs and bars, and place them upon your neck.
thongs: They are the thongs of the yoke that are called kongoijli (cojongles).
3And you shall send them to the king of Edom and to the king of Moab and to the king of the children of Ammon and to the king of Tyre and to the king of Zidon by the hand of ambassadors who come to Jerusalem to Zedekiah, the king of Judah.
And you shall send them to the king of Edom: In the days of Zedekiah in the fourth year of his reign, when Nebuchadnezzar made him ruler over five kings, the king of Edom, the king of Moab, the king of the children of Ammon, etc. These five kings Nebuchadnezzar placed under the authority of Zedekiah. Fifteen years they (the bars and thongs) were on his neck, from the first year of Jehoiakim until the fourth year of Zedekiah, when Hananiah son of Azzur broke them off him.
4And you shall command them to their masters, saying: So said the Lord of Hosts, the God of Israel; so shall you say to your masters:
5I made the earth, the man and the beast that are upon the face of the earth, with My great strength and with My outstretched arm, and I gave it to him that pleased Me.
6And now, I have given these lands into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, My servant, and even the beasts of the field I have given to him to serve him.
My servant: Who will perform My will to requite My enemies.
7And all nations shall serve him and his son and his son's son until the time of his own land come, and many nations and great kings shall make him servile.
and his son: Evil-Merodach.
and his son’s son: Belshazzar.
until the time of his own land come: When Darius the Mede and Cyrus come and slay Belshazzar.
8And it shall come to pass that the nation or the kingdom that will not serve him, Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, and who will not place his neck into the yoke of the king of Babylon, with the sword and with famine and with pestilence will I visit upon that nation, says the Lord, until I have consumed them by his hand.

11And [as for] the nation that will bring his neck into the yoke of the king of Babylon and serve him, I will allow him to remain on his soil, says the Lord, and he will till it and dwell on it.
12And to Zedekiah the king of Judah have I spoken according to all these words, saying, "Bring your necks into the yoke of the king of Babylon and serve him and his people, and live.
And to Zedekiah the king of Judah have I spoken, etc.: All this Jeremiah said to the ambassadors of the kings.
13Why should you die, you and your people, by the sword, by famine, and by pestilence, as the Lord has spoken concerning the nation that will not serve the king of Babylon?
14And do not heed the words of the prophets who say to you, saying, "You shall not serve the king of Babylon," for they are prophesying falsely to you.
15For I have not sent them, says the Lord, and they are prophesying in My name falsely, in order that I drive you out and that you perish, you and the prophets who are prophesying to you.
16And to the priests and to all this people I have spoken, saying: So said the Lord: Heed not the words of your prophets who prophesy to you, saying, "Behold, the vessels of the house of the Lord will be returned from Babylon now hastily," for they are prophesying falsely to you.
