A nigun is specifically a melody without words. Typically people sing nigunim by just saying a syllable over and over again like how people sing non-jewish music with sounds like nanananana or bababababa or bumbumbumbum. There aren’t really any lyrics.
Typically jews are raised singing certain vowels. The popular ones are
Ai ai
Oy oy
Yoy yoy
Ya ma
Ya na
Yoy noy
And you don’t have to do the same one over and over again, you can mix and match them. It’s not really about the words but about the emotion, so just sing whatever you want.

The three parts of this Niggun were composed respectively by the three first Rebbes of Chasidus - The Baal Shem Tov, the Mezritcher Magid and the Alter Rebbe (who founded Chabad Chasidus). The Lubavitcher Rebbe notes that each part of this Niggun expresses greater longing and intensity. Thus, each Rebbe built on the composition of his predecessor, adding to it. Reply
To Simha: This niggun comprises of three stanzas, each one composed by another Rebbe. The first was composed by the Baal Shem Tov. The middle one was added by the Maggid of Mezrich. And the third was added by the Alter Rebbe. Reply
