Quoting his father-in-law, Rabbi Yosef Yitzchak Schneerson, the Rebbe declares that our mission today is to reach out to our fellow Jews who are “being held captive” by the forces of assimilation.

Rabbi Menachem Mendel of Lubavitch, known as the Tzemach Tzedek, lived at a time when the Jews of the Russian Empire faced many anti-Semitic decrees at the hands of the czars.
