Lora Martini (Cohen) paints primarily with encaustic (natural beeswax with color pigment) on birch panels. Some of her influences come from memories while living in Israel during her formative years. In addition to private collections, her paintings can be found on her website, at Parklane Gallery, and several locations around the northwest United States, such as Washington State Department of Ecology and Overlake Hospital Conference Center.
This painting contains Braha L'Bait, a Hebrew blessing for the home. This reminds me of Israel's rich cultural blend of people from different origins.
The pomegranate contains the Hebrew blessing we say before eating a fruit that grows on a tree. The pomegranate is listed in the torah as one of the seven species (shivat haminim) of fruits and grains that are special products of the Land of Israel.
This painting was inspired by the warmth of the Chanukah candle lights.
