To live in a place not your own Thank you so much for this recording. For family reasons we chose to move to Buenos Aires and it has been a difficult transition coming from the US. Hearing about Jacob's positive vision although he didn't live in his homeland is an inspiring message that will help me continue to think about what purpose G-d has for me here. Reply
17 vs 18 could we also take from this that since the number 17 is 1 away from 18, chai, that Jacob did NOT live most of his life, when he was really living his main purpose, in Egypt? Reply
vayechi
rabbi, i enjoyed your talk very much.
below is my take.
vayechi = vuv yud ches yud
veh yosef chai
only when yakov found out that yosef was alive, was he able to live. vayechi= and he lived.

Vayechi Wonderful teaching, as always, Rabbi Schochet. It is very true that happiness is not involved in material wealth, but on our state of mind. It is our choice to seek the good our Creator has given us. This is a visually beautiful world in which we live. To me it is the garden of Hashem, blessed be He. As we look around, we can find His glory in all things. Once we find Him, and aknowledge His love, for which He gave us such beauty, our peace resides in the spirit He has given us. There is nothing in this world that can compare to His gifts. Is this better said than done? Peaceful life against all odds in this world? I believe it is if we determine it to be so. For it is our choice. Choosing His Shekinah, is choosing life.
