How to Ignite a Soul

One method to light up my soul and that of another is based on an analogy to Jacobs Ladder, where my prayer ascends upward to G-d as G-d descends his grace on not only me, but on another soul as my prayer dictates. Moreover, such prayers need to not only contain content directed towards G-d, but also pleading for actual insight and understanding into the Torah. Such grace may not necessarily be experienced as Light immediately, but it will eventually, I believe, given that such an unselfish prayer never goes unanswered. Is not such a prayer also a good deed? Is not such an act of charity one of the best, if not the best, forms of heartfelt love possible to bestow on one’s neighbor? Reply

Thank you for your class. I appreciated the insights about lighting the soul in someone as analogous to the Menorah.
I am a little confused though by the example your student gave of her very positive spart lighting experience.
I was taught that the prohibitions for women to go to the Amid to lein is Rabbinic. Biblically, I understand women were allowed to lein. Also, I learned that there is no Halacha or tradition is a requirement for women to daven three times a day or put on Tefillen for them to be allowed to lein at the Bima either Biblically or Rabbinically.
Since you did not correct your student, I am wondering what is the emes. I believe Torah is Truth and want to be truthful in my kirov. Please help clear this up for me and for your other viewers. Reply
