Chapter 7

1Now it came to pass, when the wall had been built and I had erected the doors, that the gatekeepers, the choristers, and the Levites were appointed.   אוַיְהִ֗י כַּֽאֲשֶׁ֚ר נִבְנְתָה֙ הַֽחוֹמָ֔ה וָאַֽעֲמִ֖יד הַדְּלָת֑וֹת וַיִּפָּֽקְד֛וּ הַשּֽׁוֹעֲרִ֥ים וְהַֽמְשֹׁרְרִ֖ים וְהַֽלְוִיִּֽם:
were appointed: The Levites were now made appointees over their stations to be gatekeepers and singers in the Temple.   ויפקדו: עתה נעשו הלוים פקודים על פקידותן להיותן שוערים ומשוררים מן הלוים בב"ה:
2And I put Hanani my brother and Hananiah the ruler of the castle charge over Jerusalem, for he is indeed a truthful man, and he has feared God for a long time.   בוָֽאֲצַוֶּ֞ה אֶת־חֲנָ֣נִי אָחִ֗י וְאֶת־חֲנַנְיָ֛ה שַׂ֥ר הַבִּירָ֖ה עַל־יְרֽוּשָׁלִָ֑ם כִּי־הוּא֙ כְּאִ֣ישׁ אֱמֶ֔ת וְיָרֵ֥א אֶת־הָֽאֱלֹהִ֖ים מֵֽרַבִּֽים:
over Jerusalem: to guard the gates of Jerusalem.   על ירושלים: לשמור שערי ירושלים:
for a long time: Heb. מֵרַבִּים, lit. from many; from many days.   מרבים: מימים רבים:
3And I said to them, "The gates of Jerusalem shall not be opened until the sun becomes hot, and they [the people] shall stand until they lock the doors and hold them, and station watches among the inhabitants of Jerusalem, each one on his watch and each one opposite his house."   גוָאֹמַ֣ר (כתיב וָיאֹמַ֣ר) לָהֶ֗ם לֹ֣א יִפָּֽתְח֞וּ שַֽׁעֲרֵ֚י יְרֽוּשָׁלִַ֙ם֙ עַד־חֹ֣ם הַשֶּׁ֔מֶשׁ וְעַ֨ד הֵ֧ם עֹֽמְדִ֛ים יָגִ֥יפוּ הַדְּלָת֖וֹת וֶֽאֱחֹ֑זוּ וְהַֽעֲמֵ֗יד מִשְׁמְרוֹת֙ יֹֽשְׁבֵ֣י יְרֽוּשָׁלִַ֔ם אִישׁ בְּמִשְׁמָר֔וֹ וְאִ֖ישׁ נֶ֥גֶד בֵּיתֽוֹ:
until the sun becomes hot: until midday, for the day was long.   עד חום השמש: עד חצי היום שהיה היום גדול:
and they shall stand until: And as long as the doors are open, they shall stand; they shall not move until the doors are locked shut, and whoever wishes to leave may leave the city, and whoever wishes to enter may come and enter. They did all this because of the enemies.   ועד הם עומדים: ובעוד שהשערים פתוחים יהיו עומדים שלא יזוזו עד יגיפו ויסגרו הדלתות והרוצה לצאת יצא מן העיר והרוצה ליכנס יבא ויכנס כל כך היו עושים מפני האויבים:
and hold them: They should hold the doors to lock them.   ואחוזו: יאחזו הדלתות לסוגרם:
watches among the inhabitants of Jerusalem: of the inhabitants of Jerusalem station watches, jetes in Old French, (groups of) watchmen.   משמרות יושבי ירושלים: מיושבי ירושלים העמידו משמרות גיט"ש בלע"ז:
4Now the city was wide and large, and the people were few within it, and there were no houses built.   דוְהָעִ֞יר רַֽחֲבַ֚ת יָדַ֙יִם֙ וּגְדֹלָ֔ה וְהָעָ֥ם מְעַ֖ט בְּתוֹכָ֑הּ וְאֵ֥ין בָּתִּ֖ים בְּנוּיִֽם:
a wide place: Heb. רַחֲבַת יָדַיִם, a wide and large place.   רחבת ידים: רחבת מקום וגדולה:
5And the Lord put it into my heart, and I gathered the rulers and the prefects and the people to trace their lineage, and I found the book of lineage of those who had gone up at first, and I found written in it:   הוַיִּתֵּ֚ן אֱלֹהַי֙ אֶל־לִבִּ֔י וָֽאֶקְבְּצָ֞ה אֶת־הַֽחֹרִ֧ים וְאֶת־הַסְּגָנִ֛ים וְאֶת־הָעָ֖ם לְהִתְיַחֵ֑שׂ וָֽאֶמְצָ֗א סֵ֚פֶר הַיַּ֙חַשׂ֙ הָֽעוֹלִ֣ים בָּרִֽאשׁוֹנָ֔ה וָאֶמְצָ֖א כָּת֥וּב בּֽוֹ:
to trace their lineage: Heb. לְהִתְיַחֵישׂ, to search for their lineage.   להתייחש: לחקור יחוסן:
those who went up at first: of those Jews who went up with Ezra at first.   העולים בראשונה: מאותן היהודים העולים עם עזרא בראשונה:
and I found written in it: All these words were written in that letter.   ואמצא כתוב בו: כל אלה הדברים היו כתובים באותה אגרת:
6These are the people of the province who went up from the captivity of the exile, whom Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon had exiled to Babylon, and they returned to Jerusalem and to Judea, each one to his city.   ואֵ֣לֶּה | בְּנֵ֣י הַמְּדִינָ֗ה הָֽעֹלִים֙ מִשְּׁבִ֣י הַגּוֹלָ֔ה אֲשֶׁ֣ר הֶגְלָ֔ה נְבֽוּכַדְנֶצַּ֖ר מֶ֣לֶךְ בָּבֶ֑ל וַיָּשׁ֧וּבוּ לִֽירֽוּשָׁלִַ֛ם וְלִֽיהוּדָ֖ה אִ֥ישׁ לְעִירֽוֹ:
These are the people of the province, etc.: until (10:35): “And we cast lots for the wood sacrifice.”   אלה בני המדינה וגו': עד והגורלות הפלנו על קרבן העצים (לקמן י' ל"ה):
and to Judea: to the province of Judea.   וליהודה: למדינת יהודה:
each one to his city: lit. a man to his city.   איש לעירו: כל א' לעירו:
7[Those] who came with Zerubbabel, Jeshua, Nehemiah, Azariah, Raamiah, Nahamani, Mordecai, Bilshan, Mispereth, Bigvai, Nehum, Baanah, the number of the important men of the people of Israel.   זהַבָּאִ֣ים עִם־זְרֻבָּבֶ֗ל יֵשׁ֡וּעַ נְחֶמְיָ֡ה עֲ֠זַרְיָה רַֽעַמְיָ֨ה נַֽחֲמָ֜נִי מָרְדֳּכַ֥י בִּלְשָׁ֛ן מִסְפֶּ֥רֶת בִּגְוַ֖י נְח֣וּם בַּֽעֲנָ֑ה מִסְפַּ֕ר אַנְשֵׁ֖י עַ֥ם יִשְׂרָאֵֽל:
who came with Zerubbabel: who came from the captivity of the exile with Zerubbabel.   הבאים עם זרובבל: אשר באו משבי הגולה עם זרובבל:
Jeshua: This is Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the High Priest. These figures sometimes coincide with the above figures (Ezra 2); sometimes there are some that do not coincide. Scripture was not so exact with the figures, but the total is the same in both places, as it is stated (Ezra 2:64, Neh. 7:66): “The entire congregation together was forty-two thousand three hundred and sixty.” The writer relied on this total and was not so exact in the figures of the individual numbers. Everything is explained above (Ezra 2).   ישוע: הוא יהושע בן יהוצדק הכהן הגדול חשבונות הללו פעמים הם מכוונים עם חשבונות של מעלה פעמים יש שאינם מכוונים זה כנגד זה ולא דקדק המקרא בחשבונות כל כך אבל הכלל שוה (עיין בעזרא סי' ב' פ"ב וצ"ע יוש"ה) לכאן ולכאן שנאמר כל הקהל כאחד וגו' ועל זה הכלל סמך כותב הספר ולא דקדק בחשבון הפרטיות כל כך והכל מפורש למעלה:
8The children of Parosh were two thousand one hundred and seventy-two.   חבְּנֵ֣י פַרְעֹ֔שׁ אַלְפַּ֕יִם מֵאָ֖ה וְשִׁבְעִ֥ים וּשְׁנָֽיִם:
9The children of Shephatiah were three hundred and seventy-two.   טבְּנֵ֣י שְׁפַטְיָ֔ה שְׁלֹ֥שׁ מֵא֖וֹת שִׁבְעִ֥ים וּשְׁנָֽיִם:
10The children of Arah were six hundred and fifty-two.   יבְּנֵ֣י אָרַ֔ח שֵׁ֥שׁ מֵא֖וֹת חֲמִשִּׁ֥ים וּשְׁנָֽיִם:
11The children of Pahath-Moab, of the children of Jeshua and Joab, were two thousand eight hundred and eighteen.   יאבְּנֵֽי־פַחַ֥ת מוֹאָ֛ב לִבְנֵ֥י יֵשׁ֖וּעַ וְיוֹאָ֑ב אַלְפַּ֕יִם וּשְׁמֹנֶ֥ה מֵא֖וֹת שְׁמֹנָ֥ה עָשָֽׂר:
12The children of Elam were one thousand two hundred and fifty-four.   יבבְּנֵ֣י עֵילָ֔ם אֶ֕לֶף מָאתַ֖יִם חֲמִשִּׁ֥ים וְאַרְבָּעָֽה:
13The children of Zattu were eight hundred and forty-five.   יגבְּנֵ֣י זַתּ֔וּא שְׁמֹנֶ֥ה מֵא֖וֹת אַרְבָּעִ֥ים וַֽחֲמִשָּֽׁה:
14The children of Zakkai were seven hundred and sixty.   ידבְּנֵ֣י זַכָּ֔י שְׁבַ֥ע מֵא֖וֹת וְשִׁשִּֽׁים:
15The children of Binnui were six hundred and forty-eight.   טובְּנֵ֣י בִנּ֔וּי שֵׁ֥שׁ מֵא֖וֹת אַרְבָּעִ֥ים וּשְׁמֹנָֽה:
16The children of Bebai were six hundred and twenty-eight.   טזבְּנֵ֣י בֵבָ֔י שֵׁ֥שׁ מֵא֖וֹת עֶשְׂרִ֥ים וּשְׁמֹנָֽה:
17The children of Azgad were two thousand three hundred and twenty-two.   יזבְּנֵ֣י עַזְגָּ֔ד אַלְפַּ֕יִם שְׁלֹ֥שׁ מֵא֖וֹת עֶשְׂרִ֥ים וּשְׁנָֽיִם:
18The children of Adonikam were six hundred and sixty seven.   יחבְּנֵי֙ אֲדֹ֣נִיקָ֔ם שֵׁ֥שׁ מֵא֖וֹת שִׁשִּׁ֥ים וְשִׁבְעָֽה:
19The children of Bigvai were two thousand and sixty-seven.   יטבְּנֵ֣י בִגְוָ֔י אַלְפַּ֖יִם שִׁשִּׁ֥ים וְשִׁבְעָֽה:
20The children of Adin were six hundred and fifty-five.   כבְּנֵ֣י עָדִ֔ין שֵׁ֥שׁ מֵא֖וֹת חֲמִשִּׁ֥ים וַֽחֲמִשָּֽׁה:
21The children of Ater, of Hezekiah were ninety-eight.   כאבְּנֵֽי־אָטֵ֥ר לְחִזְקִיָּ֖ה תִּשְׁעִ֥ים וּשְׁמֹנָֽה:
22The children of Hashum were three hundred and twenty-eight.   כבבְּנֵ֣י חָשֻׁ֔ם שְׁלֹ֥שׁ מֵא֖וֹת עֶשְׂרִ֥ים וּשְׁמֹנָֽה:
23The children of Bezai were three hundred and twenty-four.   כגבְּנֵ֣י בֵצָ֔י שְׁלֹ֥שׁ מֵא֖וֹת עֶשְׂרִ֥ים וְאַרְבָּעָֽה:
24The children of Harif were one hundred and twelve.   כדבְּנֵ֣י חָרִ֔יף מֵאָ֖ה שְׁנֵ֥ים עָשָֽׂר:
25The children of Gibeon were ninety-five.   כהבְּנֵ֥י גִבְע֔וֹן תִּשְׁעִ֥ים וַֽחֲמִשָּֽׁה:
26The people of Bethlehem and Netophah were one hundred and eighty-eight.   כואַנְשֵׁ֚י בֵֽית־לֶ֙חֶם֙ וּנְטֹפָ֔ה מֵאָ֖ה שְׁמֹנִ֥ים וּשְׁמֹנָֽה:
27The people of Anathoth were one hundred and twenty-eight.   כזאַנְשֵׁ֣י עֲנָת֔וֹת מֵאָ֖ה עֶשְׂרִ֥ים וּשְׁמֹנָֽה:
28The people of Beth-Azmaveth were forty-two.   כחאַנְשֵׁ֥י בֵֽית־עַזְמָ֖וֶת אַרְבָּעִ֥ים וּשְׁנָֽיִם:
29The people of Kiriath-Jearim, Chephirah, and Beeroth were seven hundred and forty-three.   כטאַנְשֵׁ֨י קִרְיַ֚ת יְעָרִים֙ כְּפִירָ֣ה וּבְאֵר֔וֹת שְׁבַ֥ע מֵא֖וֹת אַרְבָּעִ֥ים וּשְׁלֹשָֽׁה:
30The people of Ramah and Geba were six hundred and twenty-one.   לאַנְשֵׁ֚י הָֽרָמָה֙ וָגָ֔בַע שֵׁ֥שׁ מֵא֖וֹת עֶשְׂרִ֥ים וְאֶחָֽד:
31The people of Michmas were one hundred and twenty-two.   לאאַנְשֵׁ֣י מִכְמָ֔ס מֵאָ֖ה וְעֶשְׂרִ֥ים וּשְׁנָֽיִם:
32The people of Bethel and Ai were one hundred and twenty-three.   לבאַנְשֵׁ֚י בֵֽית־אֵל֙ וְהָעָ֔י מֵאָ֖ה עֶשְׂרִ֥ים וּשְׁלֹשָֽׁה:
33The people of the other Nebo were fifty-two.   לגאַנְשֵׁ֥י נְב֛וֹ אַחֵ֖ר חֲמִשִּׁ֥ים וּשְׁנָֽיִם:
34The children of the other Elam were one thousand two hundred and fifty-four.   לדבְּנֵי֙ עֵילָ֣ם אַחֵ֔ר אֶ֕לֶף מָאתַ֖יִם חֲמִשִּׁ֥ים וְאַרְבָּעָֽה:
35The children of Harim were three hundred and twenty.   להבְּנֵ֣י חָרִ֔ם שְׁלֹ֥שׁ מֵא֖וֹת וְעֶשְׂרִֽים:
36The children of Jericho were three hundred and forty-five.   לובְּנֵ֣י יְרֵח֔וֹ שְׁלֹשׁ מֵא֖וֹת אַרְבָּעִ֥ים וַֽחֲמִשָּֽׁה:
37The children of Lod, Hadid, and Ono were seven hundred and twenty-one.   לזבְּנֵי־לֹד֙ חָדִ֣יד וְאֹנ֔וֹ שְׁבַ֥ע מֵא֖וֹת וְעֶשְׂרִ֥ים וְאֶחָֽד:
38The children of Senaah were three thousand nine hundred and thirty.   לחבְּנֵ֣י סְנָאָ֔ה שְׁלֹ֣שֶׁת אֲלָפִ֔ים תְּשַׁ֥ע מֵא֖וֹת וּשְׁלֹשִֽׁים:
39The priests: the children of Jedaiah of the house of Jeshua were nine hundred and seventy-three.   לטהַכֹּֽהֲנִ֑ים בְּנֵ֚י יְדַעְיָה֙ לְבֵ֣ית יֵשׁ֔וּעַ תְּשַׁ֥ע מֵא֖וֹת שִׁבְעִ֥ים וּשְׁלֹשָֽׁה:
40The children of Immer were one thousand and fifty-two.   מבְּנֵ֣י אִמֵּ֔ר אֶ֖לֶף חֲמִשִּׁ֥ים וּשְׁנָֽיִם:
41The children of Pashhur were one thousand two hundred and forty-seven.   מאבְּנֵ֣י פַשְׁח֔וּר אֶ֕לֶף מָאתַ֖יִם אַרְבָּעִ֥ים וְשִׁבְעָֽה:
42The children of Harim were one thousand and seventeen.   מבבְּנֵ֣י חָרִ֔ם אֶ֖לֶף שִׁבְעָ֥ה עָשָֽׂר:
43The Levites: the children of Jeshua with Kadmiel of the children of Lehodiah, were seventy-four.   מגהַֽלְוִיִּ֑ם בְּנֵֽי־יֵשׁ֧וּעַ לְקַדְמִיאֵ֛ל לִבְנֵ֥י לְהֽוֹדְוָ֖ה שִׁבְעִ֥ים וְאַרְבָּעָֽה:
44The singers: of the children of Asaph were one hundred and forty-eight.   מדהַֽמְשֹֽׁרְרִ֑ים בְּנֵ֣י אָסָ֔ף מֵאָ֖ה אַרְבָּעִ֥ים וּשְׁמֹנָֽה:
45The gate-keepers: the children of Shallum, the children of Ater, the children of Talmon, the children of Akkub, the children of Hatita, the children of Shobai, were one hundred and thirty-eight.   מההַשֹּֽׁעֲרִ֗ים בְּנֵֽי־שַׁלּ֚וּם בְּנֵֽי־אָטֵר֙ בְּנֵֽי־טַלְמֹ֣ן בְּנֵֽי־עַקּ֔וּב בְּנֵ֥י חֲטִיטָ֖א בְּנֵ֣י שֹׁבָ֑י מֵאָ֖ה שְׁלֹשִׁ֥ים וּשְׁמֹנָֽה:
46The Nethinim: the children of Ziha, the children of Hasupha, the children of Tabbaoth.   מוהַנְּתִינִ֑ים בְּנֵֽי־צִחָ֥א בְנֵֽי־חֲשֻׂפָ֖א בְּנֵ֥י טַבָּעֽוֹת:
47The children of Keros, the children of Sia, the children of Padon.   מזבְּנֵי־קֵירֹ֥ס בְּנֵֽי־סִיעָ֖א בְּנֵ֥י פָדֽוֹן:
48The children of Lebanah, the children of Hagabah, the children of Salmai.   מחבְּנֵֽי־לְבָנָ֥א בְנֵֽי־חֲגָבָ֖א בְּנֵ֥י שַׂלְמָֽי:
49The children of Hanan, the children of Giddel, the children of Gahar.   מטבְּנֵֽי־חָנָ֥ן בְּנֵֽי־גִדֵּ֖ל בְּנֵי־גָֽחַר:
50The children of Reaiah, the children of Rezin, the children of Nekoda.   נבְּנֵֽי־רְאָיָ֥ה בְנֵֽי־רְצִ֖ין בְּנֵ֥י נְקוֹדָֽא:
51The children of Gazzam, the children of Uzza, the children of Paseah.   נאבְּנֵֽי־גַזָּ֥ם בְּנֵֽי־עֻזָּ֖א בְּנֵ֥י פָסֵֽחַ:
52The children of Besai, the children of Meunim, the children of Nephishesim.   נבבְּנֵֽי־בֵסַ֥י בְּנֵֽי־מְעוּנִ֖ים בְּנֵ֥י נְפִיֽשְׁסִֽים (כתיב נְפִֽושְׁסִֽים) :
53The children of Bakbuk, the children of Hakupha, the children of Harhur.   נגבְּנֵֽי־בַקְבּ֥וּק בְּנֵֽי־חֲקוּפָ֖א בְּנֵ֥י חַרְחֽוּר:
54The children of Bazlith, the children of Mehida, the children of Harsha.   נדבְּנֵֽי־בַצְלִ֥ית בְּנֵֽי־מְחִידָ֖א בְּנֵ֥י חַרְשָֽׁא:
55The children of Barkos, the children of Sisera, the children of Tamah.   נהבְּנֵֽי־בַרְק֥וֹס בְּֽנֵי־סִֽיסְרָ֖א בְּנֵי־תָֽמַח:
56The children of Neziah, the children of Hatifa.   נובְּנֵ֥י נְצִ֖יחַ בְּנֵ֥י חֲטִיפָֽא:
57The children of Solomon's slaves, the children of Sotai, the children of Sophereth, the children of Prida.   נזבְּנֵ֖י עַבְדֵ֣י שְׁלֹמֹ֑ה בְּנֵֽי־סוֹטַ֥י בְּנֵֽי־סֹפֶ֖רֶת בְּנֵ֥י פְרִידָֽא:
58The children of Jaala, the children of Darkon, the children of Giddel.   נחבְּנֵֽי־יַעְלָ֥א בְנֵֽי־דַרְק֖וֹן בְּנֵ֥י גִדֵּֽל:
59The children of Shephatiah, the children of Hattil, the children of Pochereth Hazzebaim, the children of Ammon.   נטבְּנֵ֧י שְׁפַטְיָ֣ה בְנֵֽי־חַטִּ֗יל בְּנֵ֛י פֹּכֶ֥רֶת הַצְּבָיִ֖ים בְּנֵ֥י אָמֽוֹן:
60All the Nethinim and the children of Solomon's slaves were three and hundred ninety-two.   סכָּ֨ל־הַנְּתִינִ֔ים וּבְנֵ֖י עַבְדֵ֣י שְׁלֹמֹ֑ה שְׁלֹ֥שׁ מֵא֖וֹת תִּשְׁעִ֥ים וּשְׁנָֽיִם:
61And these were the ones who ascended from Tel-Melah, Tel-Harsha: Cherub, Addon, and Immer; but they could not tell their fathers' house and their children, if they were from Israel.   סאוְאֵ֗לֶּה הָֽעוֹלִים֙ מִתֵּ֥ל מֶ֙לַח֙ תֵּ֣ל חַרְשָׁ֔א כְּר֥וּב אַדּ֖וֹן וְאִמֵּ֑ר וְלֹ֣א יָֽכְל֗וּ לְהַגִּ֚יד בֵּֽית־אֲבוֹתָם֙ וְזַרְעָ֔ם אִ֥ם מִיִּשְׂרָאֵ֖ל הֵֽם:
62The children of Delaiah, the children of Tobiah, the children of Nekoda were six hundred and forty-two.   סבבְּנֵֽי־דְלָיָ֥ה בְנֵֽי־טֽוֹבִיָּ֖ה בְּנֵ֣י נְקוֹדָ֑א שֵׁ֥שׁ מֵא֖וֹת וְאַרְבָּעִ֥ים וּשְׁנָֽיִם:
63And of the priests: the children of Hobaiah, the children of Hakkoz, the children of Barzillai, who took [a wife] from the daughters of Barzillai the Gileadite and was called by their name.   סגוּמִן־הַכֹּ֣הֲנִ֔ים בְּנֵ֥י חֳבָיָ֖ה בְּנֵ֣י הַקּ֑וֹץ בְּנֵ֣י בַרְזִלַּ֗י אֲשֶׁ֣ר לָ֠קַח מִבְּנ֞וֹת בַּרְזִלַּ֚י הַגִּלְעָדִי֙ אִשָּׁ֔ה וַיִּקָּרֵ֖א עַל־שְׁמָֽם:
64These who traced their genealogy sought their records, but they were not found, and they were disqualified from the priesthood.   סדאֵ֗לֶּה בִּקְשׁ֧וּ כְתָבָ֛ם הַמִּתְיַחְשִׂ֖ים וְלֹ֣א נִמְצָ֑א וַיְגֹֽאֲל֖וּ מִן־הַכְּהֻנָּֽה:
65And Hattirshatha said to them that they should not eat of the most holy sacrifices until a priest arises for the Urim and the Tummim.   סהוַיֹּ֚אמֶר הַתִּרְשָׁ֙תָא֙ לָהֶ֔ם אֲשֶׁ֥ר לֹֽא־יֹֽאכְל֖וּ מִקֹּ֣דֶשׁ הַקֳּדָשִׁ֑ים עַ֛ד עֲמֹ֥ד הַכֹּהֵ֖ן לְאוּרִ֥ים וְתֻמִּֽים:
66The entire congregation together was forty-two thousand three hundred and sixty.   סוכָּל־הַקָּהָ֖ל כְּאֶחָ֑ד אַרְבַּ֣ע רִבּ֔וֹא אַלְפַּ֖יִם שְׁלֹֽשׁ־מֵא֥וֹת וְשִׁשִּֽׁים:
67Besides their slaves and their bondwomen; these were seven thousand three hundred and thirty-seven, and they had two hundred and forty-five male and female singers.   סזמִ֠לְּבַד עַבְדֵיהֶ֚ם וְאַמְהֹֽתֵיהֶם֙ אֵ֔לֶּה שִׁבְעַ֣ת אֲלָפִ֔ים שְׁלֹ֥שׁ מֵא֖וֹת שְׁלֹשִׁ֣ים וְשִׁבְעָ֑ה וְלָהֶ֗ם מְשֹֽׁרְרִים֙ וּמְשֹׁ֣רְר֔וֹת מָאתַ֖יִם וְאַרְבָּעִ֥ים וַֽחֲמִשָּֽׁה:
68Their horses were seven hundred and thirty-six; their mules were two hundred and forty-five.   סחסֽוּסֵיהֶ֕ם שְׁבַ֥ע מֵא֖וֹת שְׁלֹשִׁ֣ים וְשִׁשָּׁ֑ה פִּרְדֵיהֶ֕ם מָאתַ֖יִם אַרְבָּעִ֥ים וַֽחֲמִשָּֽׁה:
69[Their] camels were four hundred and thirty-five, [their] donkeys were six thousand seven hundred and twenty.   סטגְּמַלִּ֕ים אַרְבַּ֥ע מֵא֖וֹת שְׁלֹשִׁ֣ים וַֽחֲמִשָּׁ֑ה חֲמֹרִ֕ים שֵׁ֣שֶׁת אֲלָפִ֔ים שְׁבַ֥ע מֵא֖וֹת וְעֶשְׂרִֽים:
70And some of the heads of the fathers' houses gave for the work. Hattirshatha gave to the treasury gold, one thousand drachmas, fifty basins, priests' tunics five hundred and thirty.   עוּמִקְצָת֙ רָאשֵׁ֣י הָֽאָב֔וֹת נָֽתְנ֖וּ לַמְּלָאכָ֑ה הַתִּרְשָׁ֜תָא נָתַ֣ן לָאוֹצָ֗ר זָהָ֞ב דַּרְכְּמֹנִ֥ים אֶ֙לֶף֙ מִזְרָק֣וֹת חֲמִשִּׁ֔ים כָּתְנוֹת֙ כֹּֽהֲנִ֔ים שְׁלֹשִׁ֖ים וַֽחֲמֵ֥שׁ מֵאֽוֹת:
71And some of the heads of the fathers' houses gave to the treasury of the work; gold, twenty thousand drachmas and silver, two thousand and two hundred manehs.   עאוּמֵֽרָאשֵׁ֣י הָֽאָב֗וֹת נָֽתְנוּ֙ לְאוֹצַ֣ר הַמְּלָאכָ֔ה זָהָ֕ב דַּרְכְּמוֹנִ֖ים שְׁתֵּ֣י רִבּ֑וֹת וְכֶ֕סֶף מָנִ֖ים אַלְפַּ֥יִם וּמָאתָֽיִם:
72And what the remnant of the people gave was gold, twenty thousand drachmas and silver, two thousand manehs, and priests' tunics, sixty-seven.   עבוַֽאֲשֶׁ֣ר נָֽתְנוּ֘ שְׁאֵרִ֣ית הָעָם֒ זָהָ֗ב דַּרְכְּמֹנִים֙ שְׁתֵּ֣י רִבּ֔וֹא וְכֶ֖סֶף מָנִ֣ים אַלְפָּ֑יִם וְכָתְנ֥וֹת כֹּֽהֲנִ֖ים שִׁשִּׁ֥ים וְשִׁבְעָֽה:
73And the priests, the Levites, the gatekeepers, and the singers, and some of the people, and the Nethinim, and all Israel dwelt in their cities, and the seventh month arrived, and the Children of Israel were in their cities.   עגוַיֵּֽשְׁב֣וּ הַכֹּֽהֲנִ֣ים וְהַֽלְוִיִּ֡ם וְהַשּֽׁוֹעֲרִים֩ וְהַֽמְשֹֽׁרְרִ֨ים וּמִן־הָעָ֧ם וְהַנְּתִינִ֛ים וְכָל־יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל בְּעָֽרֵיהֶ֑ם וַיִּגַּע֙ הַחֹ֣דֶשׁ הַשְּׁבִיעִ֔י וּבְנֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל בְּעָֽרֵיהֶֽם:
