1And the Lord spoke to Joshua, saying, |

אוַיְדַבֵּ֣ר יְהֹוָ֔ה אֶל־יְהוֹשֻׁ֖עַ לֵאמֹֽר: |
2"Speak to the children of Israel, saying, 'Prepare for you cities of refuge, of which I spoke to you through Moses. |
|
בדַּבֵּ֛ר אֶל־בְּנֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל לֵאמֹ֑ר תְּנ֚וּ לָכֶם֙ אֶת־עָרֵ֣י הַמִּקְלָ֔ט אֲשֶׁר־דִּבַּ֥רְתִּי אֲלֵיכֶ֖ם בְּיַד־מֹשֶֽׁה: |
3To which a slayer that kills any person unawares, unwittingly, shall flee and they shall be for you as a refuge from the avenger of blood. |

גלָנ֥וּס שָׁ֙מָּה֙ רוֹצֵ֔חַ מַכֵּה־נֶ֥פֶשׁ בִּשְׁגָגָ֖ה בִּבְלִי־דָ֑עַת וְהָי֚וּ לָכֶם֙ לְמִקְלָ֔ט מִגֹּאֵ֖ל הַדָּֽם: |
4And he shall flee to one of those cities, and he shall stand at the entrance of the gate of the city, and shall declare his cause in the ears of the elders of that city, they shall take him into the city to them, and give him a place, and he shall dwell among them. |

דוְנָ֞ס אֶל־אַחַ֣ת | מֵהֶֽעָרִ֣ים הָאֵ֗לֶּה וְעָמַד֙ פֶּ֚תַח שַׁ֣עַר הָעִ֔יר וְדִבֶּ֛ר בְּאָזְנֵ֛י זִקְנֵ֥י הָעִֽיר־הַהִ֖יא אֶת־דְּבָרָ֑יו וְאָסְפ֨וּ אֹת֚וֹ הָעִ֙ירָה֙ אֲלֵיהֶ֔ם וְנָֽתְנוּ־ל֥וֹ מָק֖וֹם וְיָשַׁ֥ב עִמָּֽם: |
5And if the avenger of blood pursue him, then they shall not deliver the slayer into his hand, because he smote his neighbor unwittingly, and did not hate him from before. |

הוְכִ֨י יִרְדֹּ֜ף גֹּאֵ֚ל הַדָּם֙ אַֽחֲרָ֔יו וְלֹֽא־יַסְגִּ֥רוּ אֶת־הָֽרֹצֵ֖חַ בְּיָד֑וֹ כִּ֚י בִבְלִי־דַ֙עַת֙ הִכָּ֣ה אֶת־רֵעֵ֔הוּ וְלֹֽא־שׂנֵ֥א ה֛וּא ל֖וֹ מִתְּמ֥וֹל שִׁלְשֽׁוֹם: |
6And he shall dwell in that city until he stand before the tribunal for judgment, until the death of the High Priest that shall be in those days. Then shall the slayer return, and come to his own city, and to his own house, to the city from which he fled." |

ווְיָשַׁ֣ב | בָּעִ֣יר הַהִ֗יא עַד־עָמְד֞וֹ לִפְנֵ֚י הָֽעֵדָה֙ לַמִּשְׁפָּ֔ט עַד־מוֹת֙ הַכֹּהֵ֣ן הַגָּד֔וֹל אֲשֶׁ֥ר יִֽהְיֶ֖ה בַּיָּמִ֣ים הָהֵ֑ם אָ֣ז | יָשׁ֣וּב הָֽרוֹצֵ֗חַ וּבָ֚א אֶל־עִירוֹ֙ וְאֶל־בֵּית֔וֹ אֶל־הָעִ֖יר אֲשֶׁר־נָ֥ס מִשָּֽׁם: |
until he stand before the tribunal for judgment: If he be freed from exile he is dismissed. If, however, he is sentenced to exile, he is remanded to his refuge city, where he must dwell until the death of the High Priest. |

עַד עָמְדוֹ וְגוֹ' לַמִּשְׁפָּט:
אִם יִפָּטֵר מִגָּלוּת יִפָּטֵר, וְאִם יִתְחַיֵּיב גָּלוּת יַחֲזוֹר לְעִיר מִקְלָטוֹ (במדבר לה נה): וְיֵשֵׁב שָׁם עַד מוֹת הַכֹּהֵן הַגָּדוֹל.

7And they set apart Kedesh in Galilee Mount Naphtali, and Shechem in Mount Ephraim, and Kirjatharba, which is Hebron, in the mountain of Judah. |
|
זוַיַּקְדִּ֜שׁוּ אֶת־קֶ֚דֶשׁ בַּגָּלִיל֙ בְּהַ֣ר נַפְתָּלִ֔י וְאֶת־שְׁכֶ֖ם בְּהַ֣ר אֶפְרָ֑יִם וְאֶת־קִרְיַ֥ת אַרְבַּ֛ע הִ֥יא חֶבְר֖וֹן בְּהַ֥ר יְהוּדָֽה: |
8And on the other side of the Jordan at Jericho eastward, they had assigned Bezer in the wilderness upon the plain out of the tribe of Reuben, and Ramoth in Gilead out of the tribe of Gad, and Golan in Bashan out of the tribe of Manasseh. |

חוּמֵעֵ֜בֶר לְיַרְדֵּ֚ן יְרִיחוֹ֙ מִזְרָ֔חָה נָֽתְנ֞וּ אֶת־בֶּ֧צֶר בַּמִּדְבָּ֛ר בַּמִּישֹׁ֖ר מִמַּטֵּ֣ה רְאוּבֵ֑ן וְאֶת־רָאמֹ֚ת בַּגִּלְעָד֙ מִמַּטֵּה־גָ֔ד וְאֶת־גּוֹלָ֥ן (כתיב גֹּלָ֥ון) בַּבָּשָׁ֖ן מִמַּטֵּ֥ה מְנַשֶּֽׁה: |
And of the other side of the Jordan at Jericho eastward, they had assigned: during Moses’ time as it is stated: Bezer in the wilderness, etc. |

וּמֵעֵבֶר לְיַרְדֵּן יְרִיחוֹ מִזְרָחָה נָתְנוּ:
בִּימֵי משֶׁה, שֶׁנֶּאֱמַר (דברים ד מג): אֶת בֶּצֶר בַּמִּדְבָּר וְגוֹ'.

9These were the cities set apart for all the children of Israel and for the stranger that sojourns among them, that whosoever kills any person unawares might flee there, and not die by the hand of the avenger of blood, until he stood before the tribunal. |
|
טאֵ֣לֶּה הָיוּ֩ עָרֵ֨י הַמּֽוּעָדָ֜ה לְכֹ֣ל | בְּנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל וְלַגֵּר֙ הַגָּ֣ר בְּתוֹכָ֔ם לָנ֣וּס שָׁ֔מָּה כָּל־מַכֵּה־נֶ֖פֶשׁ בִּשְׁגָגָ֑ה וְלֹ֣א יָמ֗וּת בְּיַד֙ גֹּאֵ֣ל הַדָּ֔ם עַד־עָמְד֖וֹ לִפְנֵ֥י הָֽעֵדָֽה: |
set apart: lit., the cities of setting apart, those set apart for this. |
|
הַמּוּעָדָה:
הַהַזְמָנָה הַיְעוּדוֹת לְכָךְ.
