Communicating with G-d through Prayer

This series is fascinating. As a child in a Reform family, I was taught that Jews believe that God knows what is best, so we never pray for anything we want. After I became observant I thought this might be because the only prayers we learned were Shabbat and holiday prayers. As a secular young adult, I found the intensely personal prayers of my Xtian friends fascinating and deeply moving, moved 2000 miles, and began trying to find that kind of love and trust of God within Judaism. But even then it was hard to find; these things are not taught as much as they should be! Reply
