The Hebrew Month of Tishrei
Tishrei 2026 will begin the evening preceding Sept. 12.
Tishrei (Tishri), the first month of the Jewish year (the seventh when counting from Nisan), is full of momentous and meaningful days of celebration. Beginning with the High Holidays, in this month we celebrate Rosh Hashanah, the Ten Days of Repentance, Yom Kippur, Sukkot and Simchat Torah. Each one is filled with its own meaningful customs and rituals. Some are serious, awesome days set aside for reflection and soul-searching. Some are joyous days full of happy and cheerful celebration.
But all of these days, throughout the month of Tishrei, are opportunities to connect, to be inspired, and to become more fulfilled and in tune with our true inner selves. Tishrei is considered the “head” of the year, and the reservoir from which we draw our strength and inspiration throughout the year ahead.

A teacher shared that Abraham was visited by an angel on Rosh Hashanah (maybe to announce that Sarah would become pregnant with Isaac?). I can't find any reference to that anywhere. Can you help me?
According to the Talmud (Rosh Hashanah 11a), the angel announcing that Sarah would become pregnant occurred on Passover. It was on Rosh Hashanah that Sarah, Rachel, and Chana conceived.
The Jewish year is connected to the precise movement of the sun and the moon. Because they were both made on the same day we know it was an equinox. We also know it was the fall equinox, because we were going toward darkness (fall and winter) which is why the "night" comes before the "day".
The Exodus occurred at the 50th jubilee (2450 A.H.) and Daniel prophesied there would be another 70 jubilees until the end of the age. There are 70 jubilees to an "age" (3,333 1/3 years), That is why so much is happening in the news as we are at the end of the age. We are in the year 5783 and the exodus was in 2450 which is exactly 3,333 years. The extra 1/3 of a year moves everything from the Feast of Weeks to
Sukkot which is 1/3 of a year.
The oldest calendar still in use is the Ethiopian Coptic calendar and its first day of the year is 9/11. The events in NYC on 9/11/2001 were on the 1st day of this millenium. Don't get caught up in Julius Caesar's calendar and Pope Gregory.

If Tishrei is the beginning of the Jewish year, why is it listed as the 7th month instead of the 1st month?
Rosh Hashanah (the first day of the seventh month) is the head of the year, while Nissan (the month in which Passover falls, is the first of the months.

It is my understanding that Tishrei being the head of the year is man's determination, to keep the calendar aligned with the Gregorian calendar. Nissan being the beginning of the year is G-d's command when His people left Egypt.
That isn't entirely correct. Tishrei being the head of the year is not in order to keep the calendar aligned with the Gregorian calendar. See the above comment by my colleague.

God created the earth and us humans. That's how we got here. Ask God anything you want to know so He may reveal it to you.
We do know. The Torah tells us.
To know what happens on the spirit, one has to read and study Torah and do the appointed times which are pictures of G-d’s Kingdom.
If everything was explained to us then there would be no reason for faith or trust in our creator. The fact is the more explanation we have for the world around us the more our faith struggles. You will know everything when you stand in the presence your creator.
Study the Torah is a good command.

Rabbi David Kimchi, also known as RaDaK (1160-1235), commented that the month of Tishrei is a time for gathering grain and fruits, which provide strength.
According to Targum Yonthan, this month was originally known as the first month, but after leaving Egypt, Nissan became the first month.
The Midrash teaches that Tishrei is the month our forefathers were born and they are called Eithanim, which means the strong ones of the world.
This month has many holidays and mitzvos, making it a strong and significant time of the year.
