Your teaching on Tanya, Iggeret HaKodesh ch. 8, brought Genesis 2:6 to mind: “A mist rose up from the earth,” followed by the rain from above.
What a beautiful image of itaruta d’letata: charity rises from below, and blessing and divine illumination descend from above. The earth cannot make it rain, it can only send up its mist. Likewise, our charity does not create divine light; it is our movement toward God, to which He responds from above.
The mist is ours to raise; the rain is God’s to send.
