Ruth Bell graduated in fine art in Nottingham, England, and is currently a Chabad emissary in Leeds, England. She has always been interested in ideas and finding different media to express them, and has used silk-screen, tapestry and carpentry. In 2009 she designed and supervised the building of a recreated Eastern European shtetl for the Jewish Heritage Centre for Children in Leeds. Whichever medium she uses, capturing the essence of being Jewish is fundamental to her artistic expression.
Artist’s Statement: I like to work with bold colors. The wool dyes have a special richness and the texture has a softness which gives warmth and beauty to the finished piece. Weaving is a slow process. A 12" square takes about 30 hours to weave. Chassidic...
