Ruth: (a) (10th century BCE) A Moabite princess who married the son of Naomi and Elimelech. After her husband died, she followed her mother-in-law to Israel and converted to Judaism. She then married Boaz, and they are the antecedents of King David. (b) A common Jewish name.
