Taken from the Book of Isaiah, the fast-day haftarah is read after the Minchah Torah reading. In it Isaiah exhorts the people to return to G‑d and forsake their sinful ways. He places special emphasis on keeping Shabbat, through which everyone, even those with neither pedigree nor progeny, can come close to their Creator. The haftarah concludes with the promise of Israel being gathered back home to the Land of Israel.
