A daunting task by any standards, completion of the three-chapter-per-day study of Maimonides' Mishneh Torah takes just less than one year. In an effort to help people in their effort — which the Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem M. Schneerson, of righteous memory, lauded as a force for unity among the Jewish People — the Chabad.org Web site has assembled material on Maimonides and his foundational legal code in a brand-new section, Chabad.org/Maimonides.
Unveiled on Wednesday on occasion of the completion of the 27th study cycle and the 25th year since the Rebbe instituted the practice, the section includes an overview of Maimonides' life and work, including a gallery of related images.
The site also contains essays on Maimonides' writings and a longer biography from the Kehot Publication Society.
Its centerpiece is the code's text arranged according to the three-chapter study cycle and a longer one-chapter study cycle, as well as an English translation by Eliyahu Touger and published by Moznaim, never before available online.
The site will also broadcast two live events in New York City and Illinois.
It also features a child-friendly presentation of Maimonides' Sefer Hamitzvot, which the Rebbe encouraged people whose backgrounds precluded more-intensive study to learn daily. ...
