How does this reconcile considering holocaust and Oct 7th.
Indeed as Rabbi Schochet concludes, only "this day" is suffering painful. Yet, in the future we will see that it was really for our benefit. Since that future time has not yet come, may it speedily come with the Messiah, it is impossible to answer your question at present. You may be interested in Why Does G-d Allow Suffering?
