Chapter 29

1And the Philistines gathered all their camps to Aphek, and the Israelites were encamped by the fountain which is in Jezreel.
2And the lords of the Phillistines were passing on by hundreds and by thousands, and David and his men were passing in the rear with Achish.
3And the officers of the Philistines said, "What are these Hebrews (doing here)?" And Achish said to the officers of the Philistines, "Is this not David, the servant of Saul the king of Israel, who has been with me these days or these years, and I have found no fault in him from the day he fell (in with me) until this day."
from the day he fell: from the day of his camping with me.
4But the officers of the Philistines were enraged against him, and the officers of the Philistines said to him, "Return the man, and let him return to his place, where you have appointed him, and let him not go down with us into the battle, lest he become an adversary to us in the battle. And with what will this one reconcile himself to his master? Is it not with the heads of those men?

6And Achish called to David and said to him, "As the Lord lives, (I swear) that you are upright, and your going out and coming in with me in the camp, is good in my eyes, for I have not found in you any evil from the day of your coming to me until this day, but you are not good in the eyes of the lords.

8And David said to Achish, "But what have I done and what have you found in your bondsman until this day, that I shall not come and wage war against the enemies of my lord the king?"
9And Achish answered and said to David, "I know that you are good in my eyes like an angel of God, but the officers of the Philistines have said, 'Let him not go up with us into the battle.'
