Mordechai

I am Mordechai a very good Jew,
You know me and love me and I love you.
I am a descendant of the Great King Saul,
I made wicked Haman cringe and crawl.
I uncovered the traitors Bigtan and Teresh,
I defied Haman and his wicked wife Zeresh.
I rode on a horse, with a crown on my head!
And hanged wicked Haman and his sons in my stead.
So the Jews of Shushan and lands one twenty seven
Were happy and thankful to our Father in Heaven.
And now, as then, until the sun grows cold
We celebrate Purim with gladness untold.

You are familiar with "everyone is family from everyone" and "it takes only 7 steps to get in touch with whatever person, King or President". SO recently I found out that my family name is Mordechai, instead of what was renamed under difficult circumstances some hundreds of years ago to Marx and family of Karl Marx. The Grand father of Karl Marx was Mordechai... decendant of a very loooong line of Mordechai Rabbis. I can't get rid of what I am realising myself since I found out. I wonder if there was ever taken some DNA out of Morechai's grave in Iran. That would be a boomer if a matching part could be found. Reply

Where does the identification of Mordecai as a descendant of king Saul come from? The Megillah identifies him as a member of the tribe of Benjamin. Also, King Saul's two children died without issue.

Although Jonathan and David made a friendship pact that was supposed to bind their descendants, there is no suggestion that Jonathan was ever married or had any descendants.

Although David married Michal to quiet any opposition to his rule, nowhere does it say she had any children by him. I have even heard of a tradition that she was barren because she had mocked King David's dancing in the parade when the ark of the covenant was brought to Jerusalem. Reply

The Book of Esther, which Mordechai co-authored, describes him as “the son of Yair, son of Shimi, son of Kish, of the tribe of Benjamin.” Shimi and Kish are both names of people closely linked to King Saul, who was also of the tribe of Benjamin. The sages therefore take it for granted that Mordecai was a direct descendant of Saul, and the ancient Aramaic Targumim actually list the exact chain of genealogy (See Targum and Targum Sheni to Esther 2:5.) Mordechai Mordechai was a great man and he also stoped Haman and his wife. He also rode on a horse withn a crown on his head. Also Esther was his niece she was the queen and she could not tell that she was jewish. Also Mordechai did not bow down to Haman. He also told Esther to tell the king what Haman was going to do to all the jews. Reply

Pictures of the characters of Purim story My students absolutely LOVED the pictures of Achashverosh, Esther, Vashti etc. It made the story come alive and real for them, they were fascinated!! Thank you SO much, these pictures are really amazing! Reply
