Fairgoers at the annual Taste of Colorado in downtown Denver heard the ancient call of the ram’s horn as Chabad-Lubavitch Rabbi Yisroel Engel brought his popular “Shofar Factory” to show the more than 500,000 attendees exactly how the ritual item is manufactured.
Traditionally blown during the month preceding the Jewish holiday of Rosh Hashanah, as well as on the Jewish New Year itself, the shofar reminds people to take stock of their past deeds and make positive resolutions for the coming year.
Engel’s “Shofar Factory” echoes similar activities sponsored by Chabad Houses all over the world that teach children and adults about the ram’s horn and its central importance to Rosh Hashanah festivities.
