It’s not just about picturesque facades and manicured lawns: One of America’s most successful master-planned communities will now have a new Chabad-Lubaivtch center on its carefully-aligned map.
Run by Australian-born Rabbi Mendel Blecher and his Canadian wife Leah Blecher, the new Chabad Center in The Woodlands, Texas, will be the 21st Chabad Center to open in the Lone Star State, and the ninth for the Houston region, announced Chabad of Texas director Rabbi Shimon Lazaroff.
A graduate from the Lubavitch yeshiva in Melbourne, Mendel Blecher cut his teeth on a range of Jewish educational and outreach projects, having volunteered in Germany, regional Australia and the United States. Leah Blecher is a teacher with considerable experience outside the classroom in Jewish summer camps in the United States and Canada.
“We have been received quite warmly by the various individuals that we’ve met, as well as the existing communal organizations,” reported Mendel Blecher. “I believe that with a spirit of unity, there is much that can be accomplished for the betterment of Jewish life in The Woodlands and surrounding areas.”
