While writing from a place of great ignorance, is this commandment advocating for the use of mono cultures perhaps just in the land of Israel, mono cultures seem to be causing harm to ecosystems around the world, have I misunderstood the commandment and how would it look if implemented in practice in modern times?
This refers specifically to planting grape seeds in proximity to other grains - it is not referring to other seeds being planted in close proximity to grains of vegetables. Additionally, the biblical prohibition is only in Israel.
Thank you for the clarification a mono culture this would not make and as you say this refers specifically to the planting of grape seeds in proximity to other grains. My ignorance in this matter is lessened. Is this a command that is followed by kosher wine producers today when made from grapes grown in Israel?
They do follow this. Outside of Israel, this is a Rabbinic mandate, so Jews would follow that as well. I would like to add a correction to my previous comment it should read
"This refers specifically to planting grape seeds in proximity to other grains AND vegetables.
