Hakhel Is for Children Too

An address to children on Sukkos in the year of Hakhel: During the year of Hakhel, Jews make every effort to assemble together. Jewish children are specifically included in this Mitzvah in the Torah, and you must serve as an example to others. Even though the Holy Temple is not yet rebuilt, you must prepare yourselves in similar fashion, gathering to hear words of Torah and resolving to implement Torah's teachings.

An address to children on Sukkos in the year of Hakhel:

During the year of Hakhel, Jews make every effort to assemble together. Jewish children are specifically included in this Mitzvah in the Torah, and you must serve as an example to others. Even though the Holy Temple is not yet rebuilt, you must prepare yourselves in similar fashion, gathering to hear words of Torah and resolving to implement Torah's teachings.

Children have the advantage of being free of other worries, and they can devote themselves completely to Torah. As Jewish children you are G-d's own “army,” and your victory for Torah and Mitzvos is gained through joy — a double joy: G-d rejoices with each one of you, and each one of you rejoices with G-d. And you carry this joy with you the entire year.
