Disc 53, Program 212
Event Date: 6 Tishrei 5741 - September 16, 1980
Our Forefather Isaac never stepped foot outside the Land of Israel. His life was spent in “the Land which G-d's eyes are upon from the begining of the year to the end of the year”; where all G-d’s blessings converge and radiate to the rest of the world. Joseph, on the other hand, faced material and spiritual challenges in Egypt. But despite all odds, he became ruler of the empire. The life of every Jew reflects both the life of Isaac and the life of Joseph. Certain hours of the day, or certain days of the year, resemble Isaac’s life - with great spiritual richness and sublime service of G-d, surrounded by a safe and holy environment. At other times, his situation resembles that of Joseph - when he faces the restrictions and challenges of the world, and he must deal with the powers that be. But a Jew is commanded and empowered to overcome, such that even the “Pharaohs” of the world will order and empower him: “No man shall raise a hand without your instruction.” |
