It is rare for all students of one age group to be on the same academic level in their learning. Dividing the students into smaller classes - one more advanced than the other - creates a healthy incentive for all the students to grow. When G-d separated the “Lower and Higher Waters”, only the Higher Waters seemed to have gained, for the Lower Waters were “lowered.” But Chassidus explains that the Lower Waters cried out in their desire to stand before G-d, and through this they reached higher than ever before. The same dynamic is true for “lower” and “higher” classes: all students will gain by having classes tailored to their level of learning; and the desire to “stand before G-d” empowers the student to discover new inner strengths, and to rise to the highest levels. |
