The Torah teaches us that Jacob’s best years were had while living in Egypt during the final part of his life. Nevertheless, Jacob insisted on being taken to be interred near his parents and grandparents in the city of Hebron.

This teaches us an important lesson as well. We’re expected to make the best of the time that we’re in exile from our land. But that doesn’t mean that we forget where we truly belong. Our place is in the Holy Land. And when there, our purpose is to be engaged in holy pursuits.
