Rabbi Yaakov Shpitzer was director of the Sanz-Klausenberg institutions in Israel before becoming the chief gabbai of the Imrei Shefer community in Jerusalem. In the early 1980s, his niece was suffering from a particularly aggressive cancer that doctors said left her with slim chances for survival. During an audience with the Rebbe, he raised her plight and left the meeting with specific instructions of what to do.
