In 1988, one month after the passing of his wife, Rebbetzin Chaya Mushka, the Rebbe launched the Birthday Campaign in her memory. At a farbrengen marking his own birthday in 1983, the Rebbe explained the significance of the occasion. The simple meaning of the word “birthday” implies that it’s connected with the concept of “birth” itself. Indeed, Torah teaches us that each and every day a person is born anew. Accordingly, since “I was only created to serve my Creator,” today is the day to start serving the Creator. |
