A Community of IndividualsNochum Stilerman grew up in the Crown Heights area of Brooklyn in the years following World War ll. It was in this immigrant community that his father decided to open a Kosher grocery store. Challenging all the naysayers, they managed to keep the store afloat and served many prominent customers in the process. Nochum would help his father with the deliveries, but was embarrassed by his menial work when he became of marriageable age. On one of his delivery stops, he asked the Rebbe for some advice. (1960s)
