In a Strange Land

The Torah relates how our forefather Jacob behaved when he dwelled with Laban. Overcoming all the challenging circumstances he found himself in, he remained loyal and true to serving G-d despite them. While this steadfastness was a clear demonstration of where Jacob’s true allegiance lay, it still wasn’t the true fulfilment of his potential.

A Jew’s most natural environment is serving the Almighty in the Holy Land. And as much as we try, and even succeed, in connecting to G-d, ultimately, we’ll only achieve our full potential after Moshiach’s arrival.

I don't know Yiddish (except the words everybody knows), so these Living Torah videos help my understanding of the oral tradition. I can hear, in this video, the Rebbe pronounce Jacob, "yankee," -just like the New York baseball team. It's not a coincidence. Etymology demonstrates it is the same name. Reply

I was not born Jewish and when I began reading the Bible at 8 my father quickly commanded me to stop and never to speak religion again. So, I entered life spiritually blind. I finally began reading the Bible at 30. I've had no good shepherd to help lead me. I've learned a lot by reading from Jewish sites and I learned something from this video that is opposite of what I had been taught by non-Jews about Jacob. I do appreciate that. I will continue to support Israel in my prayers and finances as well as for the coming of the Messiah. Reply
