The Jewish Woman: Pillar of Her Home: 28 Iyar, 5748 • May 15, 1988

G-d instructed Moses to begin preparing the Jews for life in Israel, by teaching them the Laws of Shmitah – that the Land should observe “a Shabbos for G-d.” But the first Shmitah would only be observed in the seventh year of their settlement; shouldn’t they first learn the laws necessary upon their arrival?

G-d instructed Moses to begin preparing the Jews for life in Israel, by teaching them the Laws of Shmitah – that the Land should observe “a Shabbos for G-d.” But the first Shmitah would only be observed in the seventh year of their settlement; shouldn’t they first learn the laws necessary upon their arrival?

The Jewish home is a microcosm of the Jewish Homeland. When a Jewish woman establishes her own home, she immediately determines what is needed for holiness to permeate her home. She plans for the joy of Shabbos and Festivals to be enjoyed by family and guests, and from the very first day, her home radiates peace and serenity, inspiring others to bring the same holiness into their own homes.
