Event Date: 12 Tammuz 5733 - July 12, 1973

In 1927, Rabbi Yosef Yitzchak Schneersohn, the sixth Lubavitcher Rebbe, was arrested for his efforts to save Judaism from being stamped out in the face of Soviet repression.

In his diary, he describes the events preceding his arrest. Focusing on a seemingly unrelated detail, the Rebbe, his son-in-law and successor, explains how it serves to show his father-in-law’s novel approach to keeping Judaism alive.
