From the beginnings of the Chasidic movement, there has been an effort to disseminate “the wellsprings of Chassidism to the outside.” After the Alter Rebbe’s release from prison in 1798, this endeavor increased in an even greater way. In the twentieth century, the Rebbe Rashab entrusted the students of his Tomchei Temimim Yeshiva in Lubavitch to “wage the battle of the House of David” — to save the Jewish People from assimilation, and hasten Moshiach’s coming. Later, when the yeshiva expanded and branched out, Chasidic laymen began to answer the Rebbe Rashab’s “call to arms” as well. Today, this directive applies to every single man and woman. |
