A Sense of Entitlement

The book of Genesis relates that “the heart of man is evil from his youth,” and when one looks around at the world today, it seems to confirm this verse. Yet Torah assures that as a person matures, the good within him develops and he can overcome negative character traits by following God’s commandments.

The book of Genesis relates that “the heart of man is evil from his youth,” and when one looks around at the world today, it seems to confirm this verse. Yet Torah assures that as a person matures, the good within him develops and he can overcome negative character traits by following God’s commandments.

This is true for society as a whole, and the key is education. Children need to be taught respect and consideration for others, which stems from the knowledge that they are not at the center of creation.

Teaching children that there is an “Eye that sees and an Ear that hears” is a first step in this process, but it depends on parents and teachers.
