On Rosh Hashanah, we are reminded of the Jewish mother’s dedication and self-sacrifice in fostering our nation’s deep commitment to G‑d. Sarah, our matriarch, was remembered by G-d on Rosh Hashana and blessed with her only son, Isaac. To instill in him proper Jewish values, she suppressed her kind and hospitable nature, and shunned those who would have a negative influence on him. In this way, she successfully raised Isaac – the only Jewish child in a world of foreign influences, to be the next Patriarch of the Jewish people. The plight of Chana the Prophetess was also remembered on Rosh Hashanah, when G-d blessed her with a son. When the Jewish mother raises her child as a proud Jew, he becomes a source of physical and spiritual abundance, and much Nachas to the entire Jewish people. |
