Event Date: 11 Elul 5748 - August 24, 1988
The Torah states, “When you go out to war upon your enemies, and the L-rd, your G-d, will deliver him into your hands...” This is not merely an introduction to the laws discussed; it is an assurance that when a Jew fights in service of G-d he will be victorious. All Jews, especially Jewish children, are soldiers in G-d’s Army, dedicated to combat against “your enemy”– the evil inclination. A Jew always has the upper hand – he is “upon” his enemy – because his soul, a part of G-d Himself, is the source of his strength. By the Jewish child demonstrating fearlessly that he will not be swayed by the enemy – his evil inclination – “G-d delivers him into your hand;” our natural inclinations are elevated, and rather than distracting us from serving G-d, they rouse us to be better and better. |
