A Shepherd of Israel
Disc 141, Program 563
Event Date: 11 Shevat 5724 - January 25, 1964
The definition of a true Jewish leader is not his lofty personal level, as the head and soul of the people. Rather, that he is able to descend and relate to “the body,” to each of his students and followers on their own level. Various versions of Midrash Tehillim relate that Moses, who was a shepherd, was chosen by G-d to be the leader of the Jewish people after being tested with tending the flocks of Yisro, his father-in-law. When G-d saw that Moses paid attention to the needs of every sheep and lead them to the pasture best for them, G-d Knew that he was fit to be the shepherd of His people. |
